Patchouli essential oil comes in three varieties: cablin, heyneanus, and hortenis. Among these, cablin is the most common and widely recognized for its superior effects. Patchouli oil excels particularly in "skin repair" and "nervous system calming." It helps with relaxation, stress relief, and promotes wound healing—especially effective for acne, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, hand eczema, athlete's foot, skin inflammation, and common female itching conditions. Patchouli oil is very beneficial for those with "sub-health" constitutions or weaker physical conditions. It promotes cell regeneration and accelerates scar tissue formation. Even dogs prone to eczema can benefit from patchouli combined with moringa seed oil to reduce constant scratching.
Key Benefits
Skincare: Patchouli essential oil helps promote cell regeneration, aids wound healing, improves rough and cracked skin, has antibacterial properties, and balances oil production. It helps fade scars and stretch marks caused by surgery, acne, or pregnancy; it also has anti-aging and firming effects, reducing wrinkles and fine lines while delaying skin aging. With its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it regulates sebum secretion and purifies pores, making it very friendly for oily and acne-prone skin. It provides soothing and therapeutic effects for eczema, psoriasis, athlete’s foot, and skin herpes infections.
Emotional regulation: Patchouli essential oil has a strong grounding effect. It helps soothe anxiety and stress, calm agitated emotions, and relieve daily pressure. It assists in combating depression and fatigue, helping to overcome emotional lows; it also uplifts spirits and reduces mental exhaustion and weakness.
Enhances focus: Patchouli oil helps clear the mind, eliminating scattered thoughts and improving concentration.
Supports addiction recovery: Studies indicate that the aroma of patchouli essential oil helps reduce cravings for cigarettes, food, or drugs, making it commonly used in smoking cessation aromatherapy.
Improves physiological functions: Patchouli oil aids in eliminating excess water and toxins from the body, improving premenstrual water retention and swelling caused by obesity. It stimulates digestive secretions, helping digest and break down fats, while relieving stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and other discomforts. Its hemostatic and astringent properties help constrict blood vessels and assist in stopping bleeding from minor wounds.
Insect repellent: A natural insecticide effective in repelling mosquitoes, ants, and fleas.
Natural perfume and air freshener: Its unique aroma makes it an ideal choice for natural perfumes and indoor diffusion, creating a relaxing atmosphere.
Directions
Facial care: Massage the face with 2 drops of patchouli essential oil diluted in 10 ml carrier oil (e.g., moringa seed oil). For skincare, add 1 drop of patchouli essential oil to your usual cream or lotion in the palm, mix well, then apply to the face.
Body skincare: For dry, rough, or cracked skin, patchouli can be used as part of daily care. Recommended blend: 10 ml moringa seed oil with 6 drops total of patchouli, furanocoumarin-free bergamot, and lavender essential oils, used for skin massage and soothing.
Digestive health: Patchouli supports digestive function. Mix 2 drops each of patchouli, ginger, and geranium essential oils into 10 ml carrier oil (e.g., virgin coconut or moringa seed oil) and massage the abdomen after meals.
Hair care (dandruff control and oil balancing): Prepare a hair serum by mixing 30 ml carrier oil (virgin coconut or moringa seed oil) with 5 drops patchouli and 3 drops rosemary essential oils. Massage into scalp before shampooing, leave for 20 minutes, then wash off. Alternatively, add 1 drop of patchouli essential oil to shampoo in the palm and mix before use.
Body massage/scar and eczema repair: Mix 10 ml moringa seed oil with 6 drops total of patchouli, cypress, and lavender essential oils. After cleansing morning and evening, apply to areas with fine lines, scars, stretch marks, eczema, acne, or hand eczema, and gently massage in circular motions until absorbed.
Emotional calming and sleep aid: Patchouli’s grounding scent helps stabilise and balance emotions, reducing anxiety. Add 5 drops to a diffuser, or apply 1-2 drops of diluted oil to a pillow to improve sleep quality and promote deep sleep.
Clothes moth repellent sachet: Add 3-5 drops of patchouli to dried lavender flowers or dried bouquets, then place in wardrobes to repel insects and impart a subtle, elegant fragrance to clothing.
Deodorizing spray: Mix 100 ml water, 10 ml alcohol, 10 drops patchouli, and 10 drops lemon essential oils. Shake well and use as a room deodorizer or shoe deodorizing spray.
